Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp. butter

  • 3 tbsp. flour

  • 1 1/2 cup broth

  • 1 tsp. garlic powder

  • 1 tsp. onion powder

  • 1 cup sour cream

  • 2 tbsp. cream cheese

Directions

  1. 1

Add butter to a small pot over medium-low heat.

  2. 2

Once the butter has melted, add the flour and whisk continuously for 1 minute, until thickened.

  3. 3

Add chicken broth (or vegetable broth), garlic powder, and onion powder to the pot, whisking until fully incorporated.

  4. 4

Increase heat to medium-high and let it come to a boil, whisking occasionally.

  5. 5

Once boiling, remove from heat and let cool down for 5 minutes.

  6. 6

If adding cream cheese, add it now, and stir it in until it melts.

  7. 7

Add the sour cream after the sauce has sat for 5 minutes and stir until fully combined.

  8. 8

The sauce will be thick like pudding before it sets up. You can add more chicken broth at this stage if you’d like to thin it a bit; add a little bit and stir until the desired consistency is reached.

  9. 9

Taste and add salt or white pepper, if necessary.

  10. 10

Pour over enchiladas, pasta, and more!
